This spectacular Hawaiian cultivar was named in honour of the revered Hawaiian legend Duke Kahanamoku, an olympic gold medal swimmer and father of modern day surfing who reintroduced the ancient sport to Hawaii and the world in the early 1900’s.
A frangipani flower befitting to honour Duke Kahanamoku has got to be the best. Plumeria rubra cv. Duke is Hawaii’s most spectacular red frangipani.
It is a very large red flower with a very large golden yellow centre with a very large and pronounced red star radiating out from the center surrounded by yellow. With some white flashes surrounded by deep red.
The flower is cup shaped, reminiscent of a water lily flower. Very thick strong petals.
Excellent cut flower variety.
The perfume is excellent and intensifies further after picking.
